ARTIST STATEMENT

Visually striking, instantly recognisable, and crafted to perfection. From a P-plater’s first lemon to the most prestigious luxury vehicles on the planet, these beloved machines hold a special place in the hearts of many. Inspired by my love for the elegant craftsmanship and aesthetics of modern performance cars, I set out on various missions throughout 2024 to the most popular car meets across Brisbane and Gold Coast to capture cars that speak to me. Dreams of one day owning an elusive and sought after performance car fuelled my passion to capture the beauty of these machines with a more abstract approach, focusing on the corner details and leaving it up to the viewer’s mind to fill the blanks and create their own story or bigger picture. Unpredictable Queensland weather and sporadic cancellations of car meets proved difficult to stick to just film for this project, I hesitantly opened up to the idea of including digital shots alongside the challenge of maintaining the dreamlike quality that film seems to innately possess. This project’s aesthetics are heavily inspired by the work of Montreal automotive photographer Aniss Hamdane (@anissturboturbo) who specialises in one particular composition which drew me into a challenge to replicate that dreamlike but sophisticated appearance.
